BERNICE RUBACH

Easter Lily      Bernice Rubach, 97, Burlington, died Nov. 12, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Milwaukee. She was born July 9, 1918, to the late Frank and Florence (Rosenhauer) Ganswindt in Slades Corners. She was a lifetime resident of Burlington. She moved to the house on Henry Street, which she had called ‘home’ for the past 95 years. She attended the Burlington schools and graduated from Burlington High School as salutatorian.

On Oct. 22, 1949, she married the late Walter Rubach at Cross Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2011.

She was previously employed by Nestles Milk Products as a secretary and also had worked at the Bank of Burlington, in the trust department. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, involved in the OWLS, church choir, and the Burlington Historical Society. She enjoyed music, reading, gardening, knitting, putting puzzles together and working crossword puzzles. More than anything she enjoyed her time spent with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Kathleen), James (Mary), Ronald (Jan) Rubach; grandchildren, Chris, Ben, Tim and Adam; step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Vivian Rubach; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Ganswindt.

In honor of Bernice, the family has suggested memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Bernice’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the special neighbors, friends and caregivers for their care and compassion watching over her.

Memorial services are Saturday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, with the Rev. Daniel Waldschmidt officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
