WALTER H. GOETZ

Walter H. Goetz, 81, Kansasville, died Jan. 8, 2014, at his home. He was born in Chicago on April 28, 1932, to the late Thomas and Anna (Spevak) Goetz. He spent his early life on the south side of Chicago where he attended St. Anthony DePadua Grade School. When he was 14 his parents moved to Kansasville where they opened Goetz’s Tavern. He attended Union Grove High School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He belonged to the Gifford-Larsen VFW Post 7924 in Kansasville.

On Aug. 30, 1958, in Racine, he married Joanne Zachar. Following marriage they made their home in Kansasville. She preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2013.

He was a truck driver for Comat Trucking and worked in maintenance for the Town of Dover. He was a member of the Kansasville Fire Department for more than 55 years. He belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dover. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Tom) Vlasin; son, Raymond Goetz; grandchildren, Jennifer Lambert, Hannah Beachem, Caleb Beachem, Lukas Goetz, Kyle Goetz, Gabrielle Goetz, Chris Goetz, Olivia Vlasin; brothers, Tom (Lu) Goetz and Bernard (Mae) Goetz; sister-in-law, Joyce Perry; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his son, Ted; nephews, Larry Wilear and Andrew Goetz; and a niece, Lisa Butera.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church – Dover, with the Rev. Richard Molter officiating. Visitation is Friday, Jan. 10, from 4-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Burial will follow Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dover.

Memorials to the Kansasville Fire Department, VFW Post 7924, St. Mary’s – Dover or Allay Home and Hospice are suggested.
