VERENA SCHAEFER

Verena (Enright) Schaefer, 81, Burlington, died April 10, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 27, 1933, to the late Joseph and Regina (Weber) Lois in Burlington.

She spent her early life in New Munster where she attended St. Alphonsus Grade School and graduated from Wilmot High School.

On Oct. 10, 1953, she married the late Lawrence Enright at St. Mary’s in Burlington. Following marriage they resided and raised their family in Burlington. Together they owned and operated Hillside Grocery. She also had worked for B B & W Telephone Co.

On Sept. 21, 1968, she married James L. Schaefer. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed her many trips to the Holy Angels Church where the EWTN Masses were filmed. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening at the farm. More than anything she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant the world to her.

Survivors include her husband; children, David (Chris) Enright, Dublin Ohio, Jacki (Ron) Wuttke, Burlington, Mary Jo Moore, Burlington, Mark (Jackie) Enright, Burlington, Scott (Sherri) Enright, Loma, Colo.; grandchildren, Brianne Miller, Tracy (Dave) Morrow, Nick (Kelly) Enright, Bridget (Jon) Howard, Jennifer Enright, Anthony Enright, Sarah Enright, Kayla Enright; great-grandchildren, Ann and Zoe Enright, Mackenzie and Hoyt Morrow; her brother, Jay (Norene) Lois; sisters, Anita (John) Nemath, Janet (Bob) Uhen and Marie (Skip) Boulden; sister-in-law, Marion Lois; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her sister, Mercedes (Sylvester) Woyak; brothers, Richard Lois, Kenneth (Joyce) Lois; niece, Denise Lois; nephews, Art and Greg Lois; and son-in-law, Dave Moore.

The family has suggested memorials be made to the ALS Association or Season’s Hospice.

Verena’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Season’s Hospice, especially Rachel and Margot, and to the staff of Home Helpers staff, especially Debbie for all their care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Volkert officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, served the family.
