TERRY J. VANDENBOOM

4'10'14 OBIT Vandenboom, Terry webTerry J. Vandenboom, 64, of Kansasville, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee.

Terry was born February 26, 1950, to Raymond and Alice Terry Vandenboom in Burlington.  His early life was spent in Kansasville on the family farm.  He attended Kansasville grade school and graduated from Burlington High School. Following high school he attended the Agricultural School in Ames, Iowa.

On January 19, 1974, he was united in marriage to Susan Smetana at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. Following their marriage they resided in Rochester for four years then relocated to Burlington until 1995 when they moved to the family homestead in Kansasville.

Terry was retired. He had worked as a manufacturing engineer at Aptar, in Mukwonago, for 38 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Dover and had been involved in Racine County 4-H for many years.

Terry was a very grounded person, he loved the simple things in life especially farming the land, playing cards with his card club friends and traveling the state to attend many, many auctions “where he would find these great deals.”

But more than anything, family and family traditions meant the world to Terry.  He loved driving the tractor for the family hayrides throughout the years for different occasions on the farm.

Terry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan; children, Mark (Julie) Vandenboom of Michigan, Melanie (Mark Bastian) Vandenboom of Elkhorn and Kevin Vandenboom of Kansasville; a grandson, Jarrison Vandenboom and a sister, Roberta Higbie, of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard McCracken.

The family has suggested memorials be made to family for a memorial site they will be building on the family homestead in honor of Terry and his love for the land.

Terry’s family would like to extend a big, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Paul Webber of Aurora Medical Group in Burlington and the St. Luke’s Medical Center, Neuro ICU staff for all their care and compassion in their assistance with Terry’s care.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
