ROMAN A. KETTERHAGEN

4'10'14 OBIT Ketterhagen, Roman webRoman A. “Romie” Ketterhagen, 92, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Burlington on June 8, 1921, he was the son of Benjamin and Anna Busch Ketterhagen.  He was a lifelong resident of Burlington and attended school at St.Mary’s.

On May 20, 1944, he was united in marriage to Verena Susanne Freund. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their family.  Verena preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 2009.

Romie worked at Wisconsin Southern Gas Company as a foreman, retiring in 1984.  He worked for Ketters Gutters following retirement.  He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Romie loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, working outside in his yard and garden. Verena and he cherished their “up north” trips and vacations with family and friends. Being an avid sports fan he enjoyed watching the Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. Romie played cards regularly with his “guys” in his card club.

Above all, Romie’s family meant the world to him. He always had time and cherished the time he spent with his kids and grand kids. He will truly be missed by them all.

He is survived by his children, Dale M. (Nancy) Ketterhagen, Elaine (Hank) Bennett, Sue (John) Dewey and Gary Ketterhagen (Theresa Hewitt).  He is further survived by his grandchildren, Anna (Tim) Roegner, Troy (Angie) Ketterhagen, Grant (Kelly Jo) Ketterhagen, Chris (Rachel) Bennett, Matt Bennett, Michelle (Kris) Henke, Andrea (Jeremy) Augle, Chantry Ketterhagen, Valerie Ketterhagen and John Jr. (Traci) Dewey; 14 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Alice Daniels and sister-in-law, Bernice Ketterhagen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Benjamin Ketterhagen; five brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to thank Patty Ebbers and Home Helpers, Aurora Visiting Nurse Association, Becky Bush, and the staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center for their love and care of Roman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Jim Volkert presiding.  Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
