NANCY E. THORNTON

Easter Lily

Nancy E. ‘Peanut’ Thornton, 81, Burlington, died April 19, 2014, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington with many of her family with her, following a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Long Acre, W.V., on May 17, 1932, to the late John W. and Madeline E. (Martin) Howery.

On April 19, 1980, she married Emerson ‘Ray’ Thornton. Following marriage they made their home in Eagle Lake before moving to Burlington in 1983.

She worked at Nestles for 32 years in many different areas. She enjoyed working at ChocolateFest over the years, sponsored many families through Love Inc. for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, gardening, collecting angels, crocheting, reading, quilting and Country Music – especially Conway Twitty. She always looked forward to her monthly luncheons with friends and her family reunions in West Virginia. While her children were growing up she attended all their sporting events. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband; children, Eugene ‘Danny’ (Dawn) Piechocki, Darlene (Steve) Schmit, Brian (Pam) Piechocki, Linda (James) Daniels, Kathie Howell, Raymond (Joan) Howell, Herbert Wayne (Debbie) Howell; stepsons, Steve (Deb) Thornton, Alan (Lynn) Thornton; grandchildren, Carrie Ann, Jamie, Zach, Jerad, Madalyn, Gabbie, Evan, Kelli, Kerri, Vivian, Jeremy, Melanie, Melissa, Raymond Jr., Gregory, Jeffrey; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Maryrose Laing, Karen Garris, Linda Pierce, Wanda Folden, John Howery, Becky Howery-Ballard and Patricia Richmond and Chip Howery; many friends and neighbors, especially Karen Bauman, who helped her over this time with cards and visits.

She was further preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Honaker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Syed Haider, Dr. Rugina Hussain, Dr. Jolanta Twardy and Dr. Stephen Welka for their care, concern and guidance during this difficult time.

Services are Thursday, April 24, at 6 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Visitation is at the funeral home on April 24, from 3-6 p.m.
