Mary Lynn Koenen, 78, Burlington, died April 30, 2014, at Kindred Nursing and Rehab. She was born March 8, 1936, to the late Kenneth ‘Bud’ and Lorraine (Reuschlein) Hawkins in Burlington. She resided in Burlington her whole life and graduated from both St. Mary’s Grade School and St. Mary’s High School.
On Aug. 17, 1957, she married Harold Raymond Koenen at St. Mary’s in Burlington. Following marriage they resided in Burlington where they raised their family.
She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed basking in the sun, reading, especially murder mysteries, doing crossword puzzles and watching her cardinals outside on the feeders. She loved spending time with her best friend Judy Bauman and her family. More than anything, Lynn treasured the time she had with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; children, Scott (Katie Rowan-Koenen) Koenen, Kris (Julia) Koenen, Jeffrey (Patty) Koenen, Keith Koenen, Karen (Arnie Gatrel) Koenen; grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Janelle, Carrie, Craig, Catherine, Trisha, Carolyn, Amanda, Simone, Sierra; sisters, Joan (Cloyd) Porter and Jeanne (Alan ‘Montana’) Miller; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (John) Mutter and Judy (Dick) Chase; brother-in-law, Lorry Yanny; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was further preceded in death by her sister, Carol (Melvin ‘Cal’) Robers and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Yanny.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Kindred Care and the staff at Seasons Hospice for all their care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. James Volkert officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday May 4, from 1-5 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington.
