LYLE Q. BRISCOE

Lyle Q. Briscoe, 81, Burlington, died Jan. 16, 2014, at his home. He was born in Milwaukee, July 25, 1932, to the late Aubrey F. and Hilda M. (Willing) Briscoe. He spent his early life in Stevens Points where he attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School. He further graduated from University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with a BA in history.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.

On March 24, 1961, he married Nancy J. Kleman, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee. Following marriage they lived in Chicago, Wilmette and Northbrook before moving to Burlington in 1994.

He worked as a commodity broker. He belonged to the Chicago Curling Club and the Racine Curling Club during the winter months, and golfed during the summer.  He loved to read, especially history. His favorites were The Civil War, World War II and politics. Daily he would read the New York Times and always completed the crossword puzzle while eating breakfast. He enjoyed classical, jazz, and swing music; had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed gathering with his friends for good food and a martini. He loved to watch the Badgers and Packers.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years; sisters, Gail Lawson, Tucson, Ariz., Barbara Scott, San Miguel, Mex., and Judith Briscoe, San Rafael, Calif.

Nancy would like to thank Dr. Randall Schmidt, caregiver, Batsukh ‘Bob’ Duudee; nurses, Heidi, Beth and Jody; and his physical therapist, Teresa for their care and compassion during this time.

A gathering of family and friends, to celebrate his life, will be held at his home on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
