Luella J. Schmidt, 98, Town of Norway, died peacefully at home on Jan. 21, 2014. She was born April 29, 1915, to the late Ed and Sarah Jacobson.
After graduating high school, she married Lloyd Schmidt on Feb. 17, 1940, at the Norway Lutheran Parsonage. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1981. She was a lifelong member of Norway Lutheran Church where she participated in the Quilters Group and the Tichigan Circle. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and spending time sorting apples from her orchard, gardening and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara (Stu) Bennerotte; son, Lynn Schmidt; Judy Schmidt; grandchildren, Darin Schneider, Tracy (Luke) Bird, Tammy, Chris and Tim Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Audra, Alaina and Adriana Bird; her special friend, Diane Behrens; nieces; nephews; other relatives and countless friends.
She was further preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dawn Schneider, and her brothers and sisters.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at noon at Norway Lutheran Church, 6321 Heg Park Road, Wind Lake. Visitation will be in church on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Burial is in Norway Hill Cemetery following services on Saturday. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to Norway Lutheran Church. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, is serving the family.
