HUGH H. SMITH

Easter Lily      Dr. Hugh H. Smith, 86, Burlington, died July 3, 2014, at the Dolphin House in Waterford. He was born April 15, 1928, to the late Henry and Mamie (Burns) Smith, Mt. Horeb. His early life was spent in Mt. Horeb on the family farm. He graduated from Mt. Horeb High School. Following high school he attended and graduated from UW–Madison and Marquette Dental School.

He served in the military during World War II where he was stationed in Japan.

In 1956 he married Marilu Adamson in Kenosha. Following marriage they lived in Burlington where he owned his own dentistry practice. He was involved in the community, was a member of the Burlington Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Charles Church, where he sang in the choir. For many years he volunteered at the Franciscan Missions. In his spare time he enjoyed playing tennis, golfing and watching the Packers and the Brewers.

Survivors include his wife; children, Timothy (Sharon) Smith, Susan (Robert) McEntee, Thomas (Jeanne) Smith, John Smith; grandchildren, Samantha, Natalie, Rebecca, Michael and Madeline Smith, Allison, Michelle, Kelli and Maggie Smith, Jack and Will McEntee; his brother, Dean (Helen) Smith; sister-in-law, Helen Smith.

He was further preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to the Franciscan Missions in Rochester.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Allay Hospice, Melinda Dolphin and the staff of the Dolphin House for their care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 8, at 6 p.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on July 8, from 4-6 p.m., at the church. A private burial will take place at St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
