HAROLD E. SMITH SR.

Easter Lily      Harold E. Smith, Sr., 82, Northfield, died Oct. 4, 2014, at the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Lewistown, Mont., to the late Arnold and Dorothy (Heller) Smith.

Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 2, 1951, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 26, 1954.

He married Dolores Rondorf on Nov. 4, 1967, at Little Brown Church in The Vale in Nashua, Iowa.

He worked as a pole-building salesman for many years. After retiring, he took great pride in being a horse rancher.

Survivors include his children, Richard (Elsie) Craig, Pueblo, Colo., Dorothy Henning, Burlington, Jackie (Larue) Ulshafer, Greenfield, Ind., Harold (Mary) Smith Jr., Whitehall, Peter (Debbie) Smith, Burlington, Laurie Wien, Steger, Ill., Amy (David) Schmitz, Altoona, Holly (Paul) Zach, Pewaukee, and William (Kari) Smith, Osseo; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey Smith, Stanford, Mont.; nieces; nephews; and relatives.

He was further preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 5, 2010; and brothers, Bill and George.

Funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m., at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Northfield.

Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Harold’s family prefers, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to the Trinity Equestrian Center or the Wounded Warrior Project.
