FRANCIS SCHAEFER

Easter Lily      Francis B. Schaefer, 89, Burlington, died March 11, 2014. He was born on the family farm in Brighton Township, to the late Aloysius ‘Pete’ and Esther (Jansen) Schaefer. He attended St. Francis School and The Rhodes Public Graded School.

On Aug. 8, 1959, he married Helen M. Uhlenhake at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington. He was a farmer and they lived on the Uhlenhake farm until 2005. At the age of 80 he became a world traveler, visiting 11 countries and three continents, enjoying travels in Alaska and many other fun trips with Helen.

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Andrew (Leila) Schaefer, Julie (Russ) Furne, Edward (Christina) Schaefer; grandchildren, Lindsay and Dylan Schaefer, Nicole and Allison Furne and Cael Schaefer; his sister, Janette Schmeckel; sisters-in-law, June Schaefer and Joyce Schaefer; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jane Schaefer, Sister Mary Charles Schaefer SSND, and Ann Uhlenhake Wirth; brothers, Bob, Leo and John Schaefer.

Visitation is Saturday, March 15, from 9-11 a.m., at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main St., Waterford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School Sisters of Notre Dame.
