ELIZABETH E. JOCHEM

Easter Lily      Elizabeth E. ‘Fifi’ Jochem, 85, Burlington, died Dec. 26, 2014, at Pine Brook Pointe.

She was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Burlington, to the late Edward and Gertrude (Maney) David. She lived in Burlington her entire life, attended St. Charles Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1946. Following high school she worked for three years as a secretary at Murphy Products.

On Sept. 10, 1949, she married Ralph ‘Sam’ Jochem at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dover. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1991.

She worked as a secretary at Burlington Junior High School for 25 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Charles Catholic Church. From her earlier years her best times were spent with members of the City of Burlington Fire Department. Fifi, Sam and friends enjoyed dancing the night away at many local establishments.

She loved to cook, play cards, do crossword puzzles and enjoyed spending time with her friends where she was famous for telling her corny jokes. She was a fun-loving person who had a great compassion for others, had a witty personality and will be remembered by everyone who met her for her warm heart.

Survivors include her children, David (Nancy) Jochem, James (Robin) Jochem, Mary (William) LaBadie; grandchildren, Lauren (Zane) Kabrick, Joseph Jochem, Christopher (Julia) Jochem, Chelsey LaBadie, Lindsey LaBadie; step-grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Loesch and Alyssa (Jake) Findlay, all of who were the light of her life; nieces; nephews; other relatives and very special friends and neighbors.

She was further preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Evans; brother, James (Eileen) David; and sister, Eileen (Donald) Albright.

Memorials to St. Charles School or Church would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Pine Brook Pointe and Home Helpers of Burlington, Seasons Hospice and Dr. Paul Webber for the wonderful care they all provided.

Services for Fifi are Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. James Volkert presiding. Visitation is Friday, Jan. 2, from 4-8 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Burial will follow the service in St. Charles Cemetery.
