DOUGLAS L. JANKE

Easter Lily  Douglas L. Janke, 48, a resident of Cato, died peacefully Aug. 25, 2014, at home surrounded by his wife and son.

He was born on Sept. 13, 1965, in Waukesha, to Herbert and Sharon (Campbell) Janke. He attended Waterford schools and graduated from Waterford Union High School in 1984. Following graduation, Doug played semi-pro football for the Racine Raiders. He then continued his education through DeVry University for business management. He was employed at Manitowoc Tool & Machine where he was the vice president of manufacturing.

On July 26, 1997, he married Stephanie ‘Stevie’ Skarzynski at Paradise Springs in Eagle. He was a member of Reedsville Sportsman’s Club, Manitowoc County Archers, and Francis Creek Sportsman Club where he enjoyed helping with archery league. He enjoyed the great outdoors and was an avid archer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, shooting archery with his close friends and family, and watching football. Over the last few years, Doug had a newfound love of cooking.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Douglas G. Janke, Cato; and Dalton Krueger, East Troy; his parents of Waterford; sibling, Dean (Lucia) Janke, Greg (Carri) Janke, and Leann Janke, all Waterford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

A Life Celebration Social is Thursday, Sept. 4, from 4-7 p.m., at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N. Water St., Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.

A special thank you to Drs. William DeShur, Kenneth Bastin, and the team of doctors and staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Also special thanks to Drs. Andrew Yetter, David Rohde, and the staff of Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic for the special care given to Doug and helping to prolong his life.

The family would also like to thank Manitowoc County Pink Heals, speech therapist of Aurora Medical Center, Martha Schwobe; and Aurora VNA for their compassion and care. In the last few months, the family met so many wonderful, caring and compassionate people and don’t know what they would have done without them.
