DOROTHY NELL SHARP

Easter LilyDorothy Nell Sharp, 95, Waterford, died Nov. 12, 2014. She was born in Waukegan, Ill., on Nov. 19, 1918. She grew up in Lake Villa along with an older sister, Charlotte, and a younger brother, John. She attended Antioch High School and later, through a neighbor, met Vern Sharp whom she married on June 10, 1937. He was a farmer and he also worked a factory job and any other job he could get to take care of his growing family. He found work in Burlington and they lived on a farm between Burlington and Kansasville where they raised chickens and cattle. They grew their own food in their garden, including a great deal of rhubarb.

Dorothy spent a lot of time canning and then later freezing their produce. She also enjoyed embroidering, which she sold in the church bazaar.

They had two daughters, Judy and Barb, and the family grew to include seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. For many years Dorothy played the piano for their church and enjoyed playing and singing, but she did not perform. Her favorite music included folk and country, oldies, and religious. She also enjoyed bowled and spent time reading (magazines and newspapers), and liked to watch old movies, especially comedies. She was a sports fan and rooted for the Packers and the Brewers.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy (Reed) Harvey and Barb Petersen (Charles Larson); brother, John (Shirley) Meyer; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister.

Funeral services were Nov. 17, at English Settlement United Church, Burlington. Burial followed in English Settlement Cemetery. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, served the family.
