CECIL DICK

Easter Lily   Cecil Dick, 82, died peacefully, May 25, 2014. He was born April 7, 1932, to the late Otto and Essie Marie Dick. He grew up in Olmsted Ill., where he had perfect attendance throughout his school years at Pulaski County Schools before graduating from Mound City High School.

He served overseas in the Korean War and had the opportunity to travel throughout the region and in particular spoke of his time in Japan.

He was employed by the Burlington Mills upon moving to Burlington. He later worked for the Burlington School District, in maintenance, where he was employed for over 30 years.

On June 25, 1960, he married Gloria Susan Malsch at Burlington United Methodist Church. Married more than 30 years until her passing in 1992, together they enjoyed serving the community in many ways.

An active member of the Burlington Lions Club, he visited dozens of cities in Wisconsin and the region as a member of the Burlington Lions Club parade ‘clown unit.’ As a weekend clown, Cecil brought many smiles by doing ‘wheelies’ on the parade route in his vehicle and by crafting balloon animals for kids.

During the summers Cecil could often be found operating the butter sprayers at the annual Lions Chicken BBQ in Echo Park.

Given his love of gardening and green thumb, his beautiful cactus plants, enormous sunflowers, and bountiful gardens were legend. Both he and Gloria were active members of the United Methodist Church, as well as in a number of BHS Booster activities. Cecil had a near-insatiable sweet tooth, and was a proud resident of Chocolate City, USA.

Survivors include his daughter, Amy (Scott) Gleason, Onalaska, and his son Eric, (friend Lynn Cornell), St. Paul, Minn.; sister-in-law, Judy Anderson, Mukwonago; nieces and nephews.

He was further preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Stanley Kler; in-laws, Gordon and Edna Malsch; and sister-in-law, Jane Weiser.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, with the Rev. Ebenezer Insor officiating. Visitation for family and friends is one hour prior to services Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Burlington United Methodist Church or the Burlington Lions Club. The family wishes to extend its sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Sterling House, Onalaska, for their warmth, kindness, and wonderful care.
