ALICE M. VANDENBOOM

 

Easter Lily      Alice Magdalene Terry Vandenboom, 99, formerly of Kansasville, died March 7, 2014, at Oak Ridge Care Center. She was born Jan. 2, 1915, to the late Henry and Louise (Fonk) Terry in Paris Township. Her early life was spent in the Paris and Union Grove area where she attended grade school and graduated from high school.  Following high school she went to the Business College of Racine. She was employed by George Gorton Machine Co., as a secretary for five years.

On Aug. 26, 1939, she married the late Raymond Leo Vandenboom at St. John’s Catholic Church in Paris. Following marriage they resided at the family farmhouse, on Vandenboom Road, for 55 years. After Ray died on Sept. 28, 1994, she moved to St. Monica’s Senior Citizens Home in Racine. She lived there until moving to Oak Ridge Care Center four years ago.

She enjoyed working on crafts and spent many hours having fun playing cards. She loved her family and cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Higbie, Indianapolis, son, Terry (Sue) Vandenboom, Kansasville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, George (Patricia) Terry, Racine; sisters-in-laws, Marge Terry, Racine, and Helen Nelson, DePere; many nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her son-in-law, Richard McCracken; sister, Ione Robers; brother, Wallace Terry; and special cousins, Wilbur Terry and Marie Frederick.

Memorials may be made to St. Monica’s Senior Citizens Home or Oak Ridge Care Center.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of both St. Monica’s Senior Citizens Home and Oak Ridge Care Center for all their care and compassion they gave Alice over the years.

A memorial service is Saturday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m., at Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home, 908 11th Ave., Union Grove. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday from 12:3-2:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
