SHIRLEY J. MEINKE

Shirley J. Meinke, 89, Bassett, died July 5, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehab Center, Burlington.

She was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Burlington, to the late John and Martha Hoffman Bauman.

On Dec. 7, 1946, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Burlington, she married William C, Meinke. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1990.  She had been a lifelong resident of the Burlington/Bassett area.

She worked for Burlington Mills for five years, then Watlow  Gordon Co., in Richmond, Ill., for 22 years and then was a cook for Sentry in Twin Lakes. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Burlington.  She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughters, Ellen Graff, Powers Lake, Sandra Collins, Jasper, Ga., Carla (Kirk) Wagner, New Munster, Amy (Michael) McNulty, Twin Lakes; son, Charles (Colleen “Sam”) Meinke, Burlington; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty and Myrtle Bauman, both Burlington, Gloria Bauman, Paris, Ill., and Rose Bauman, Addison, Ill.

She was further preceded in death by brothers, Roland, Frank, Phillip, Robert and Eugene Bauman.

Visitation is Thursday, July 11, from 3 p.m., until time of services at 7 p.m., at Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home, Twin Lakes. The Rev. Daniel Waldschmidt of St. John’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment is Friday, July 12, in Wilmot Cemetery.
