ROGER W. HUMPHREY

Roger William Humphrey, 85, Fort Atkinson, formerly Burlington, died Oct. 12, 2013, due to a short pulmonary disease on at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

He was born in Zenda, on July 5, 1928, to the late James T. and Ethel J. (Voth) Humphrey. He grew up in the Lake Geneva area and graduated from Lake Geneva Badger High School. His father was the janitor at the Williams Bay School on Geneva Lake. It was at that school where he was introduced to the new Home Economics and Science teacher, Joyce Mardell Geigel of Monroe, who would become his beloved wife of 63 years. They were married on June 17, 1950, in Monroe. He was employed by Schuette, Werth and Daniels Funeral Home and Furniture Store, Burlington, prior to relocating to Fort Atkinson in 1968.

He was a salesman by trade, and was widely recognized for the volunteer work he was involved in throughout the community.

He was a long time member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #9, a member of the Sahara Shrine Club, and belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Earl T. (Mary) Humphrey, Delavan, R. Timothy Humphrey, Fort Atkinson, Randall S. (Pam) Humphrey, Houston, Texas; daughter, Mary Sue (Brian) Friesenhahn, Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, including Patricia Spiegelhoff, Burlington, and Gerald (Gary) Humphrey, Lyons.

Visitation is Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4-8 p.m., with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Fort Atkinson, and also Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 1 p.m., until time of service at 1:30 p.m., at the church. The Rev. Russell Frees Jr. will officiate.
