RICHARD B. AMON


Richard B. Amon, 84, Elkhorn, died Feb. 3, 2013, at his home with his family at his bedside. He was born May 21, 1928, in Elkhorn to the late Bernard R. and Amanda (Albrecht) Amon. He had been a lifetime resident of Elkhorn and a graduate of Elkhorn High School.

On Jan. 13, 1951, in Burlington, he married Arlene Ruth Rose. Together they made their home in Elkhorn. Richard’s father, Bernard, started the construction business and Richard had started working in the gravel pits as a teenager. He worked continuously during the war with his father and in the 1950s started in the asphalt paving business. Along with his brother, Ken, they worked their way up the business to becoming owners. For more than 60 years Richard, worked in road construction. He enjoyed his family as well as traveling with his wife of 62 years, dancing, tennis and golf.

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Tom (Mary Jo) Amon, Don Amon, Gary Amon, Karen (Tim) Gilsrud; grandchildren, Jon Amon, Mary Jean Amon, Amanda Amon, Jason Gilsrud, Todd Gilsrud, Heather Gilsrud; step-grandchildren, Troy, Brandon and Jessica; siblings, Priscilla Schmall and Ken (Bonny) Amon; sister-in-law, Judy (Ray) Schweitzer; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his son, David (Dawn) Amon; a grandson, Brian Amon, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Rose.

Visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 4-8 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, and again Thursday, Feb. 7, from 9:45-10:45 a.m., at Cross Lutheran Church, Burlington, with funeral services at 11 a.m., at the church. The Rev. Corinne Denis will officiate. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cross Lutheran Church or to Lutherdale Bible Camp in Elkhorn, are suggested.
