MILDRED M. JOHNSON


Mildred M. Johnson, 91, Town of Norway, died peacefully at home on Feb. 12, 2013. She was born on the Jacobs farm in the Town of Dover on Aug. 22, 1921, to the late Anthony and Mary (Smetana) Jacobs. She was a proud graduate of the Rochester Ag School in 1939.

On May 18, 1946 she married Norman O. Johnson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Dover parsonage. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2012. The couple moved to the Johnson family farm in the Town of Norway in 1950. She worked at various jobs within Racine and Milwaukee counties and retired with 12 years of service from American Roller in Union Grove.

She was a leader for the Norway 4-H and for Racine County for more than 25 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She loved baking, decorating cakes and staying in contact with her classmates, relatives and friends. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Jane Johnson, Greenfield, Dave Johnson, Milwaukee, Sally (Bob) Hagemann, Burlington, Julie Johnson, Waterford; grandchildren, Abigail, Megan, Katie and Kevin Hagemann, Callia and Laina Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jayce Nelson and Caden Johnson; sister, Patricia (Marvin) Jacobson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jacobs; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her brother, Ken.

Visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 4-8 p.m., at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main St., Waterford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 305 S. First St., Waterford. A short visitation will also be held in the Church on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. Burial will follow Mass in Norway Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorials to either St. Thomas Catholic Church or Wind Lake Fire and Rescue.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers over the past few years who helped Mildred at home and the staff of Synergy of East Troy and Hospice Advantage of Union Grove for their care of our mom and grandmother Mildred.
