IMELDA M. ALBY

Easter Lily

Imelda M. Alby, died peacefully Nov. 3, 2013, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, with her family at her side.

She was born July 14, 1926, to the late Alvin and Mary (Kerkman) Robers on the Kerkman farm on the hill in New Munster. She spent her childhood living across the street from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church – spending many a day watching the children during recess on the playground. The priest and her parents decided that she should start 1st grade at the tender age of four because she spent so much time there. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School age 16.

She married the loved of her life, Harold J. Alby, on Nov. 29, 1952, and shared 49 wonderful years together.  They made their home in Burlington where they raised their two children, Terry and Toni. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2002.

She retired in 1988 from Lavelle Industries after 20 years to take on her most rewarding life work – watching over her grandchildren, Josh and Abbey, while her daughter worked. During those years she instilled in them the importance of a devoted family through her unconditional love, guidance and support.

She left a lasting impression on every person she met and she will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Sue) Alby and Toni Myhre; grandchildren, Joshua (Chelsea) Rupert, Carissa Alby, Abbey (Michael) Myhre and Michael Alby; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Jayden and another on the way; brother, Ignatious (Mitzi) Robers; special cousin, Glen (Louise) Thompson; dear friend, Lucy Greunke; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends.

Services are Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington, with the Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Friends may call at St. Mary’s Good Sheppard Chapel Saturday, from 9-10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
