EDNA L. O’MEARA

Edna L. O’Meara, 94, died peacefully July 7, 2013, at her home in Burlington.

She was born in Chicago, March 14, 1919, to the late William F. and Marie (Langlois) O’Meara, the youngest of 8 children. She spent her early years in Chicago and moved to Burlington where her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. (Mary) Stevens were living. She worked for more than 50 years for Charles B. McCanna and was office administrator for his varied business interests in real estate and confectionary.

She was active in various professional organizations in Burlington. She was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting and used her considerable needlecraft skills to make vestments for priests at several local parishes. She loved to travel, read, listen to music and spend time with her family and friends. She was proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed animals and got much pleasure from every pet she had. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Janet (Wayne) Stroud Malinski, Deborah Stroud, Joyce (Cyril) Matter, Colleen (Gene) Erickson, James (Sharon) Stevens, Richard (Diana) Stroud, Kenneth (Arlene) Koehler, John (Gail) Koehler, Barbara (Alan) Schneider; 19 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; and her special beagle, Yuri.

She was further preceded in death by siblings, William J. O’Meara, Catherine (Ralph) Lorenz, Mary (J.D.) Stevens, Helen (John) Stroud Buchan, Alyce (Melvin) Koehler, John O’Meara and Edna’s twin, Edward O’Meara.

Visitation is Thursday, July 11, from 4-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, 625 S. Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Funeral services are Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington. Burial is in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following services.

Memorials may be made to her favorite charities, Doctors Without Borders, or any Prevention of Cruelty to Animals charity.
