CLARENCE E. ALBERTSON

Clarence E. Albertson, 90, Burlington, died peacefully July 11, 2013, with family at his side at Arbor View Assisted Living, where he resided for the past 18 months.

He was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Rockwood, Tenn., to the late Clarence E. and Eleanor (Reemelin) Albertson. He grew up in Cincinnati, moving to Lafayette, Ind., and then Villa Park, Ill., for 60 years.

On Dec. 28, 1947, he married Helen L. Wolfe in Ohio. Following marriage they resided in Villa Park. She preceded him in death July 8, 2004.

He was employed with Borg-Warner for 40 years as a research chemist in Ill. He was an active member of Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church and lived his life guided by God. He sang in the choir, played trumpet and harmonica.  after his retirement, he obtained certification in heating & cooling which he used at church as well as home. He worked at the voter registration polls in his later years, provided volunteer income tax help for senior citizens, as well as volunteer companionship for older persons with Alzheimer’s before the disease progressed within himself. He truly was a man who gave much more than he took and was always ready to help others when he could, right to the very end.

He loved the outdoors and was an advocate of the preservation of nature, enjoyed gardening, photography, tree farming, canoeing, camping, hiking and mountain climbing. His side hobbies included woodworking and ham radio. He was a strong family man who invested himself in continual learning throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed various scientific endeavors, being pulled from college to work on the Manhattan Project, returned to college (Miami Univ. and of Univ. of Cincinnati) to pursue a career in chemical research.

Survivors include his two children, Pam Albertson (Steve) Cass, Burlington, and Charles Albertson, Ferndale, Wash.; grandchildren, Marc Olsowka, Villa Park, Jessica Cass, Minneapolis, Benjamin Albertson, Shoreline, Wash.

He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jill Albertson, and sister, Joyce Fay.

A memorial service is Saturday, Aug. 3, at Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church, 111 W. North Ave., Elmhurst, Ill., at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jason Turner officiating. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.

Memorials to Faith Evangelical UMC or Christo-Rey High School in Minneapolis, are suggested.
