CHARLES F. WIEMER

Charles F. Wiemer, 94, Burlington, died Nov. 1, 2013, at Geneva Lake Manor.

He was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Burlington, to the late Frank C. and Julia B. (Bauman) Wiemer. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington, attended St. Charles Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

On June 6, 1942, he married Alberta Rose Pieters at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 2007.

He worked as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Charles Holy Name Society and sang in the choir for many, many years. He was a farmer before his career with the Postal Service and also drove school bus for the Burlington School District. He loved to fish, play cards, garden and enjoyed watching sports, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Carol (Lenny) Lois, Wheatland, Dave (Barbara) Wiemer, Iowa City, Iowa, Tim (Wanda) Wiemer, Tampa, Fla., Tom (Doreen) Wiemer, Burlington; grandchildren, Mike (Pam) Lois, Barbara (Steve) Berezowitz, Bill (Amanda) Lois, Patti (Jeff) Tenhagen, Laura (Jason) Hoffman, Andy (Christine) Wiemer, Jenny (Brian) Resnick, Jamie (Allie) Cimpl-Wiemer, Steve (Ashleigh) Wiemer, Kimberly (Sam) Vos, Timmy Wiemer, Bradley Wiemer; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Virginia Kornhoff and Ruth Wiemer.

He was further preceded in death by his brother, John (Lorena) Wiemer; brothers-in-law, Edward Pieters, Robert Pieters and Clarence Kornhoff; and granddaughter, Kathryn Wiemer.

Services were Nov. 4, at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial was Nov. 5, in St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, served the family.

Memorials to St. Charles Church or Catholic Central High School would be appreciated by the family.
