CAROL R. HARTLINE

Carol Ruth Hartline, 67, died March 5, 2013, in Burlington. She was born May 9, 1946, to the late Arthur and Hazel Riffey in Chilhowie, Va., and grew up in Bristol, Tenn.

She had been courageously battling cancer for the past four plus years and passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the company of her loving sister, Barbara Jean Booher.

She married Wayne Hartline on Aug. 21, 1964, while he was still in the U.S. Navy and thus moved to Norfolk, Va. In the following years they lived in Tennessee and North Carolina for short periods of time before finally moving to Illinois where she spent the majority of her adult life.

She worked at several different employers in her life but most enjoyed the 20 plus years she spent working at The Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, Ill. She enjoyed working within the community and working with all the residents in the center. She was a devoted wife and mother supporting Wayne and her children in all of their activities, careers, and interests. Carol was deeply rooted into the Sandwich community in many ways and gave back as often as she could. She took a lot of pleasure in helping all those around her in any way she could.

Carol and Wayne returned to her home state of Tennessee in 2003 where they both enjoyed being back in the South. Carol enjoyed returning back to her family that she had been away from for so many years and spent as much time as she could with them. In 2009, Carol moved to Wisconsin after Wayne died to be closer to her children. In the remaining years Carol spent in Wisconsin residing independently at Springbrook Village, she made many new friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a special woman and will be missed by many.

Survivors include her children, April (Larry) Ogryzek, Darryl Hartline, James Hartline; grandchildren, Jenny Anderson, Mackenzie Hartline, and Addison Hartline; and sister, Barbara Jean Booher;

She was further preceded in death by her brother, James Riffey, and a sister who died at birth, Mary Kay Riffey.

Carol’s final wish was to be cremated and thus visitation services only will be held at Beverage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9 located at 104 Terry St., Sandwich, Ill., from 1-4 p.m.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers, direct all donations to The Open Door Rehabilitation Center, 405 Wells St., Sandwich, IL 60548 in Carol’s name.
