CARL E. SUNDBERG

Carl E. Sundberg, 97, Burlington, died March 10, 2013, at Arbor View surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1915, in Burlington, to the late Gustuv and Anne Marie (Pierson) Sundberg.

On Nov. 9, 1940, he married Gertrude M. Hinzpeter in Lake Geneva.  They just celebrated their 72nd anniversary.

Carl and Gertrude were very involved with and attended Cross Lutheran Church since the beginning of their union. Carl worked for the railroad in his younger years and then was a machinist/foreman at Wagner Specialty until retiring around the age of 75. He took pride in his work ethic, and enjoyed working outside, and in his garage on cars, lawnmowers, or anything else with an engine.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Constance (Bruce Hunter) Meyer of Florida, and Karen (Roger) Wuttke of Delavan; grandchildren, Shelly (Jeff) Mullikin, Randy (Cindy) Wuttke, Lori Wuttke, Peter Dyszczakowski, Amy (Roberto) Campillo, Tracy (Hugh) Garber; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Michael Mullikin, Reed and Gage Wuttke, Isabel and Robbie Campillo, and Evan and Drew Garber; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Hancock; and brothers, Eric, David and Gunner.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends. We were truly blessed to have his love, knowledge, wisdom, and strength for so many years.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 12, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m., at Cross Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carolyn Sellers will officiate.  Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cross Lutheran Church General Building Fund or Arbor View Activity Fund for Residents. Both places helped the Sundbergs from the beginning to the very end.

Constance would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to all the people who have helped to enrich Carl and Gert’s lives with their love, kindness, and sincere friendship. These people especially were of great importance and comfort in the last years and months of their lives; Rick and Fran Kirsch, Del and Jean Ahearn, Rita Bohnsack, John and Dorothy Hackala, Jim and Marilyn Hansen, Ken and Mary Burton, Ken Johns, and many others from Cross Lutheran who continued to remember them even in their absence from church services.

Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
