Malcolm “Pinky” Kaehler

Malcolm Andrew ‘Pinky’ Kaehler, 90, died Nov. 9, 2013, at his home. He was born in Evanston, Ill., on July 19, 1923, to the late Alfred and Agnes (Johnson) Kaehler.

He graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and served aboard LST 40 and LST 864 (Lady Luck) during World War II in the Pacific.

After the war he married Elfriede ‘Freddie’ Krohn in 1949. They moved from Illinois to Darien in 1955 where they raised their family. He was a truck driver and a Teamster.

After retirement they lived in an RV splitting time between Edgerton and Florida. They became permanent residents of Lake Magic RV Resort near Disney World in 2009. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, history and debating. He was a friend to all dogs and was called ‘The Treatman’ because he always had dog treats in his pocket.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Donal (Becky), Idaho, Todd, Oregon; daughters, Lynn (Clay) Cameron, Darien, Dale (Tom) Waldo, Orlando; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was further preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Wertz.

Interment is Dec. 2 in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Cremation of Polk County, Haines City, Fla., is serving the family. In lieu of flowers a donation to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lake Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778 in his memory would be appreciated.
