HARRIET A. DEACON

Harriet Ann Deacon, 81, Eau Claire, died Nov. 4, 2012, at her home.

She was born June 7, 1931, to the late Albert and Ella (Klatt) Steinke, in Jackson Count. She was raised in the Augusta area, where she was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hay Creek,  and graduated from Augusta High School in 1949. After graduation she had lived in Iowa and Illinois, before moving to Burlington in 1962, where she worked at Trostel Industries.

In 1973, she moved to Eau Claire. She enjoyed the time she had spent working in various restaurants in her younger years, and baking for her family and friends, especially bread and cookies. Over the years she enjoyed the opportunity to bowl on various bowling leagues wherever she was living. She also enjoyed crocheting, dancing, playing cards, bingo and even computer games. Her family meant the world to her, spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to the annual deer hunt; as she loved being with the family cutting up the deer and the camaraderie that went with it.

Survivors include her children, Mary (Scott) Schoettle, Fall Creek, Richard (Sally) Claflin, Dayle (Ann) Claflin, Keith Deacon and Bruce Deacon, all Eau Claire; sisters, Alice (Arnold) Zillmer, Kenosha, Deloris Steinke, Augusta; aunt, Ethel Klatt, Altoona; sisters-in-law, Peggy Steinke, Pigeon Falls, Karen (Ramon) Varrientosm Porterfield, Willow Dean Steinke, Fairchild; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was further preceded in death by her brothers, Art, Bill, Lester, Howard, Roger and Norman Steinke; and nephew, David Steinke.

Funeral services are Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial at a later date in the Hay Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
