Waterway district explores hiring staff

An additional person could be brought into the fold of Waterford Waterway Management District (WWMD) operations as the seven-person board overseeing the entity looks to streamline some of the administrative tasks.

At their monthly meeting held last week, the WWMD board resumed exploration of a topic that bubbled to the surface on several occasions last summer.

WWMD board chairwoman Kelly Cornelius discussed the staffing proposal June 27 during a report of the Information and Education Committee, a group she heads within the greater realm of the WWMD.

“I’m looking to the board to help determine the type of person that we’re looking for,” Cornelius said as she led off the discussion.

Before any outside assistance is added, WWMD commissioners will need to zero in on a number of specifics – including the job description itself.

  1. Why do we need 7 on the board cut 2 of them to save money.

  2. Hi Tom, The present board serves without pay per By-Laws. They have worked hard but I feel they bit of a bit too much with their efforts. Our main concern is weed control which has not worked well but should be the main direction before dredging expenses which are very high and have questionable results as the weed control over the past 5 years has proven poor and very expensive. Not their fault but the DNR which does not cooperate.
