Waterford earns honors at Academic Bowl

Waterford Graded School District students earned second-place honors in the Southern Lakes Academic Quiz Bowl, held at the Cotton Exchange in Waterford on March 13.

A total of five school districts from southeastern Wisconsin participated including Elkhorn, Delavan-Darien, Whitewater, Lake Geneva and Waterford.  Seventy-five students in grades six, seven and eight competed in both individual events and team activities.

• Sixth-grade students representing the Waterford Graded elementary were Maggie Bennett, Christopher Collins, Kirsten Ranke, Kolby Sholly and Jacob Wanasek

• Seventh-grade students representing Fox River Middle School were Graeme Gross, Hannah Hinners, Katiann Nelson, Justin Pankowski and Callie Shaw.

• Eighth-grade students representing Fox River Middle School were Hannah Merlo, Molly Muth, Jeret Nation, Camryn Ochs and Matt Plantz

In addition to earning second place with their composite score, one of Waterford’s three current event teams earned first-place honors for their small group efforts.

Special recognition also goes to the following students for individual scores:

• sixth-graders Kolby Sholly (first place, math), Jacob Wanasek (first, science), Maggie Bennett (first, language arts) Kirsten Ranke (third, language arts) and Christopher Collins (third,  social studies);

• seventh-graders Graeme Gross (second place, social studies, Justin Pankowski (second, math), Hannah Hinners (third, language arts); and

• eighth-graders Camryn Ochs (first place, science), Molly Muth (third, social studies),  Matt Plantz (third, math).
