Summer help not needed at the Sanitary District

With near completion of its involvement in the Highway 164 project, a temporary staffing increase previously discussed for the Town of Waterford Sanitary District No. 1 (WSD) will not be needed, according to Board President Dan Dickinson.

The District’s staffing issue had been raised by Operations Superintendent Norm Nelson at commissioners’ June meeting. He requested consideration for hiring a person to help assist with regular duties in the summer months.

At that time, Nelson was directed to look into the matter further and provide a potential pool of applicants. But Dickinson said July 9 that the temporary position will not be filled.

ID protection reviewed

Town of Waterford Sanitary District No. 1 commissioners are continuing their review of a so-called red flag, or identity protection, policy that has long been on the district’s books.

The commission reviews the policy annually. This year, with several new elected officials seated, members made the decision to do a thorough review of the document.

It is possible that amendments could be made to the policy at WSD’s next meeting on July 10.

Sewer main/well issue

WSD staff, legal counsel and commissioners have been reviewing a sewer main at 28840 Beach Drive. Concerns about the main’s close proximity to a nearby well have been raised.

At their monthly June meeting, WSD commissioners briefly discussed the issue, then tabled the matter for further investigation.

The sewer main issue was scheduled for further discussion, and possible action, at the commission’s July 10 meeting.
