Breaking good: more state aids mean less WGSD taxes

By Patricia Bogumil

Late-breaking news arriving Tuesday for the Waterford Graded School District’s 2013-14 budget was most welcome.

Tuesday morning, Superintendent Chris Joch learned that WGSD will receive about $107,000 more in state aids than what the state projected in July.

As a result, Joch anticipated taxpayers would get about a one percent break in the district’s proposed 2013-14 tax levy: dropping it down about $100,000 from a proposed 4 percent tax increase ($414,000), to a 3 percent increase.

      But wait, there’s more.

Tuesday evening, WGSD board members meeting in committee instructed Joch to cut the proposed tax levy even further, down to a 2 percent increase from the taxes paid last year.

The proposed 2013-14 $16.254 million budget will be presented to electors on Monday, Oct. 21, at the WGSD annual meeting.
