Big Bend cops see you coming and going

Big Bend police are asking the public to detour around a construction zone on Highway 164 between Highway L and at Edgewood Avenue before some worker gets killed or injured.

A detour has been in place in Big Bend to prevent motorists from traveling through the construction, where workers are laying sewer laterals.

The project will run about another month before its expected completion, said Big Bend Police Chief Michael Hartert.

The only traffic permitted to enter the construction zone are motorists who need to go to a business or residence located within the zone, he said.

Too many drivers traveling back and forth between Waukesha and Waterford on Highway 164 are ignoring the Big Bend detour signs, he said, and are instead are driving through the construction zone, putting the workers safety at risk.

The detour around the zone only takes drivers five or six blocks out of their way, he added.

Verbal warnings have been given by police; tickets have also been issued; but the violations are still continuing and recently there have been a couple of near misses.

Big Bend police are asking all motorists on Highway 164 not to drive through the construction.  Enforcement of the traffic rules in this construction zone means that violators will be cited and fines and penalties assessed.

  1. What is the problem with issueing tickets, lets wait and have someone killed. Then, gewhiz maybe we should have kept the trafic to nothing. This is a prime time to make some money, and kept idiots out of a construction area.
