Village will stay with county police services

No one yet has signed on the line

The Waterford Village Board voted 4-3 Monday night in favor of pursuing a 2013 police services contract with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

Village President Tom Roanhouse and trustees Tom Christensen, Steve Denman and Judy Spencer voted “aye.” Trustees Roy Gawlitta, Don Houston and Ron Kluth said “no.”

The board’s decision fell short of actually sealing the deal by signing the contract.

Instead, the board voted to sign a 2013 contract only after additional wording is added that defines how the Sheriff’s Department will manage the village’s officer next year and also establishes better inter-agency communications. For 2012, the Town Police Department has managed the village’s one officer.

The new, updated 2013 Sheriff’s Department contract is expected to be discussed, voted on and signed when the Village Board meets Monday, Aug. 27.
