At the Aug. 13 regular Town of Waterford Board meeting, discussion about a possible buy-back of the Town Hall building from the Waterford Sanitary District was put on hold until after results of Tuesday’s recall election were known.

In that election, Dan Dickenson successfully unseated WSD Board President Bill Gerard.

Monday night, it was noted that town Supervisor Tim Szeklinski had asked for the Town Hall purchase discussion to be placed on the Aug. 13 meeting agenda.

“I’m a strong believer we should own our own building,” he explained. “In the long term, it’s better for us.”

The Town Hall and its 99-year, $1 annual rent lease has been a bone of contention between the Sanitary District and Town Board for several months. The Sanitary District has been looked into legal options to void the lease, which has been in effect since 1988.

According to Town Chairman Bob Langmesser, the issue of whether town or district workers shovel in the winter has now become a problem. See related story on Page 3.

“Now they’re too lazy to shove the sidewalk,” Langmesser said Monday night. “We do the whole parking lot.”

Monday night, there was a brief discussion about a possible buy-back, with Langmesser saying the board might consider paying $100,000 to $150,000 for the building.

But Langmesser said he wanted to delay any further discussion until the recall election is settled.

“Let’s find out if there’s going to be change,” said Langmesser.

The town board then unanimously voted to stay the discussion until after the election.
