An attempted burglary at the McDonalds and BP gas station on Fox Lane in Waterford early Sunday has resulted in an arrest with multiple charges.

Jacob G. Mayer, 19, Muskego, was charged June 26 in Racine County Circuit Court with two felony counts of attempted burglary of a building and two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property.

According to Town Police Chief Tom Ditscheit, a Town of Waterford officer was first to arrive on scene. When county deputies arrived, that officer then served as backup.                  Ditscheit said that according to information from the county’s computer-aided dispatch records, a call came in around 3 a.m., June 26, saying that a suspect described as a short-haired male was trying to break into the back door of the McDonalds and had also tried to break into the BP Gas Station.

The caller described the suspect as just walking around the building with something in his hands that looked like a board and said no car was visible.

A cinder block was reportedly used to try and break into the BP station, resulting in damage to its door.

With the assistance of witnesses, deputies located Mayer in the lobby of the nearby Baymont Suites hotel and Mayer was conveyed to the Racine County Jail, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

Mayer made an initial appearance in court June 26, at which time probable cause was found that he had committed a crime. A $400 cash bond and $1,000 signature bond were set. As a bond condition, he can have no contact with either Fox Lane business other than for restitution purposes.

Mayer is next scheduled in court July 12 for a preliminary hearing, when a judge will consider whether his case should proceed to trial.

If convicted of all charges, Mayer faces up to 14 years in prison; fines of $45,000; or both.
