St. Thomas kids raise funds for Mini Relay

What does it take to get your principal and maintenance engineer arrested and jailed?

For St. Thomas Aquinas School students, it was raising more than $1,200 for the Cancer Society in a week.

The students and parents rallied together to see their principal, Pam Kramer, and school custodian, Jay Morrical, arrested and jailed in front of all the students.

Kramer and Morrical then made phone calls to raise bail for the cause.   The final total for the day was $1,609.64.

On Friday, May 25, St. Thomas is hosting a Mini Relay for Life event at the Waterford Union High School track prior to the high school’s Relay for Life event.

The students will continue to raise money leading up to their event by paying to wear flip flops, chew bubble gum in school, and getting to wear holiday t-shirts and hats.

At the event there will be games, face painting and other fun activities planned along with a gift card raffle.

Last year, the students raised $2,350 and are on pace to reach this year’s goal of $2,500.

St. Thomas is looking for survivors to walk with them.

If you are a cancer survivor and would like to join St. Thomas at their Mini Relay for Life, please call the school office at 534-2265.

Jail or bail was the only deal on the table when St. Thomas Aquinas School maintenance engineer Jay Morrical and principal Pam Kramer were arrested and jailed in a cancer fundraiser held at school.
