School superintendent position filled from within

The Muskego-Norway School Board has selected Dr. Kelly M. Thompson as the district’s next superintendent.

Thompson is the assistant superintendent for the district and will succeed Dr. Joe Schroeder, who is resigning effective June 30.

Schroeder, who has been with the district for five years, recently accepted the position of associate executive director of Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA).

“Dr. Thompson’s knowledge of our district, our goals and our initiatives make her uniquely qualified to carry the district forward to new heights,” School Board President Jim Schaefer stated in a press release.           “Dr. Kelly Thompson is an exceptionally dedicated and capable learning leader, who is also an individual of the highest personal integrity,” said Schroeder. “Muskego-Norway is blessed to have such a fabulous leader at the helm.”

Thompson has served the Muskego-Norway Schools for 19 years, supporting students and staff in various educational roles including coordinator of pupil services, high school associate principal, director of instruction and her current role as assistant superintendent. She earned her Bachelor of Science (1989), Master of Science (1991) and most recently her Ph.D. (2008) in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

“It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to expand my influence in a system focused on every student learning, growing and succeeding,” said Thompson.

Thompson and Schroeder will work together to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Thompson’s contract begins July 1.
