Recall effort kicks in to oust WSD commissioner

And, yes, grinder pumps are involved

Add Bill Gerard, the president of the Town of Waterford Sanitary District (WSD), to the list of people being targeted for recall this year.

On April 30, former WSD commissioner Dan Dickinson filed papers of his intent to gather signatures on a petition to recall Gerard from the WSD board.

Dickinson said he was asked by another WSD customer if he was interested in initiating a recall of Gerard. If not, Dickinson said, he was told a third person was prepared to act.

“Given the fact that I’m retired, have time to dedicate to fixing some WSD issues and already have experience with WSD, I thought it’s time to step up and tackle the problem.”

Gerard was notified Monday via email by Dickinson of the intent to file recall papers. Gerard first had a chance to examine the filed paperwork Tuesday morning.

Gerard said the recall initiative “came as quite a shock,” adding: “I’ve tried to do the best I could and look out for the sanitary district residents since being elected to the WSD board commissioner three years ago.”

Three years remain in Gerard’s six-year term of office.
