Motorcyclist killed, wife injured in Memorial Day crash

A motorcyclist was killed and his wife critically injured after their bike was struck by a pickup truck on Highway 12 in the Town of LaGrange on Memorial Day.

Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies said the crash occurred at about 9:57 a.m. on Monday, May 28.      William M. Geimer, 58, of Rolling Meadows, Ill. died at 11:07 a.m. after being transported to Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn following the crash, according to a media release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

His wife and passenger Cheryl Geimer, 60, remains in critical condition.

Initial investigation revealed the Geimers were traveling together on a 2007 BMW motorcycle eastbound on Highway 12.

Josh D. McCue, 26, of Waterford, was driving a 1998 GMC pickup truck that was pulling a boat trailer and traveling west on Highway 12 when he attempted a left turn onto Tamarack Road.

Sheriff’s deputies said the truck turned into the path of the motorcycle and both vehicles collided in the intersection. William Geimer, the motorcycle operator, had the right-of-way.

The collision caused Cheryl Geimer to be thrown from the motorcycle. William Geimer, the motorcycle driver, struck the passenger side of the truck.

The Geimers were both wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash, according to the release.

All occupants of the truck were treated and released from area hospitals.

The passengers in the GMC are identified as Ryan A. Wengel, 27, of Fort Atkinson; Alicia M. Karczewski, 21, Union Grove; and Kacy L. Ryan, 22, Union Grove.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash at this time, sheriff’s deputies said.

The investigation remains open and ongoing.

Once the investigation is completed, the matter will be reviewed by the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office for consideration regarding possible citations and/or charges.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Lauderdale-LaGrange Fire/Rescue units and the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit.
