DNR land buy in Tichigan moves forward

It was nice to be asked for input.

But, in the end, it didn’t really matter that the Town of Waterford Board or nearby residents expressed opposition to a state proposal to buy 57 acres of private Tichigan property to expand public hunting, recreation and wildlife habitat.

On April 25, the state Natural Resources Board considered a Town Board resolution giving concerns with the proposal. It also was provided with a neighborhood petition that gathered nearly 100 signatures in two days to oppose the idea.

In a unanimous decision, the Natural Resources Board decided to go ahead with the purchase, said Richard Steffes, Real Estate Director for the state Department of Natural Resources.
