Celebrating the Fourth in Waterford

The 31st annual Waterford Area Fourth of July parade steps off Wednesday, July 4, at 11 a.m. from Aber and Seventh streets in the Village of Waterford. It follows a route down Main and First streets to its end at Whitford Park.

This year’s theme is “America Rocks,” an idea submitted by Meg Gunn, an Evergreen Elementary School student, who will ride in a place of honor as the 2012 Parade Marshal.

The Waterford Lions Club will again be awarding cash prizes for parade entries that best follow this year’s theme.

Registration forms are available in advance at In Home Flooring, 241 N. Milwaukee St., and Waterford Senior Living, 301 S. Sixth St.; or online at www.waterford-WI.org.

• Activities start early July 4 at 8 a.m. with the 5K River City Road Race and Walk, starting and ending at Whitford Park.

Pre-registered entry fee of $20 is sue July 2; day of race registration is $23.

• A pre-parade cookout July 4 by Bon Voyage Cruise & Vacations will again offer complimentary grilled hot dogs and soda from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bon Voyage is located near the parade route at 116 N. Milwaukee St.

• This year’s Childrens Bike Parade for ages 0-12 years is again sponsored by Uncle Harry’s Ice Cream.

The kids parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Children under age 6 must be accompanied by an adult and arrive 20 minutes early. Prizes will be awarded.

Entry forms for the Kids Bike Parade are available at Uncle Harry’s Ice Cream.

• The Lions’ Great Duck Raffle will again offer a chance to win lots of cash. The raffle takes place around 1:30 p.m. at Ten Club Park. Lions will be selling raffle tickets along the parade route July 4.

A patriotic concert performed by the Burlington Kiwanic Civic Band will also be held at Ten Club Park after the parade.

• The celebration continues July 4 at the Bunker, located at the corner of highways 36 and 20, with food, raffles and live music by the Twin Rivers Band from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

• On Saturday, July 7, the annual Tichigan Lake fireworks go up at dusk, preceded by the Muskego Waterbugs show at 7 p.m. This year’s donations are in memory of long-time supporter Barb Krizan.

The annual sand bar party on Tichigan Lake will be held July 1 at noon.
