‘Bottoms Up’ toasts the inns of Wisconsin

Patrons celebrated Wisconsin’s historic bars Monday night with a book signing and documentary viewing at the DMZ Bunker.

With dozens of other Wisconsin tavern and brewery sites, the DMZ Bunker in Waterford participated Monday night in toasting the premiere of the one-hour documentary “Bottoms Up: Wisconsin’s Historic Bars and Breweries,” aired on public television stations statewide.

The documentary aired Monday night is based upon the book “Bottoms Up: A Toast to Wisconsin’s Historic Bars & Breweries” by Jim Draeger and Mark Speltz and published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press.

The DMZ Bunker is featured in the TV documentary and also included among 70 establishments featured in the companion book.

Monday night, the book’s coauthor, Mark Speltz, was on hand at the Bunker, talking with patrons about the book, signing copies, and introducing a viewing of the documentary.

The statewide celebration of Wisconsin’s storied bar and brewing history took place thanks to a unique effort between the Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Public Television.
