Volunteer workdays set at state recreation area

Groups interested in a service project or individuals who’d like to volunteer some time, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is announcing a series of workdays planned to help improve the park and the environment.

Workdays are very flexible and volunteers may come for the whole time or for an hour. They may show up for all the workdays or just one. Ages may vary, but are best suited for ages 10 and up.

Some of the planned projects include helping with habitat work by cutting and hauling brush. You may be improving trails by cutting brush and clearing paths or pruning park trees in picnic areas.

Workdays are not cancelled due to bad weather. Come dressed to work outside in layers with boots, hats and gloves. If you have tools, you may bring them but we will try to have all necessary materials.

When arriving for the workday, ask at the visitor center for directions to the work area and staff will give a free pass for the day.

Call (262) 878-5607 to sign up. The currently scheduled workdays are as follows:

• Saturday, Feb. 1, 1-3 p.m.

• Saturday, Feb. 22, 12:30-2:30 p.m.

• Saturday, March 1, 9-11 a.m.
