Summer camp signups available at Shepherds

      Shepherds Ministries, a leading provider of services to people with intellectual disabilities, is opening registration for Camp Discovery, offering four, one-week summer camps for young people ages 13 to 25, held on the Shepherds campus in Union Grove.

“We’re planning exciting summer activities for camp this year,” said Andrea Humphrey, coordinator of Camp Discovery. “We’ve added a camp for students interested in college that will include skills training. All camp options are fun-packed weeks with a variety of on-campus activities and off-site excursions.”

By creating a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment, the staff of Camp Discovery will help the campers explore the question, “What can I do with my abilities?”

Through skill-building classes and activities like field trips, boating, crafts, Bible studies, sports and computers, each student will discover talents, make great friends and create lasting memories.

“We’ve kept costs affordable,” said Humphrey. “We only charge $700 for an entire week of lodging, food and activities. We also offer a day-only option for $500.

“People who are eligible for IRIS can use these funds towards the cost of camp.”

Camp Discovery currently has openings for campers to attend the following dates:

• June 16-21, ages 13 to 17;

• June 23-28, ages 18 to 25;

• June 30-July 5, ages 18 to 25; and

• for college-minded students: July 7-12, ages 18 to 25.
