Village Board members will be seeking a representative to attend Central Racine County Health Department meetings, following an Aug. 5 presentation by the agency at an Administration/Finance Committee meeting.

The Health Department has officially recommended that the Village become a voting municipality on its Board for health matters.

“We had a citizen member who went to meetings,” explained Village trustee Gordon Svendsen.

“With the Central Racine County, we will have a vote on their Board. And one of our members will recommend someone from our Village Board to be the voice.”

The recommendation comes after the Village joined Central Racine in 2012 for public health services, after spending years with the Western Racine County Health Department, a partnership the Village Board voted to discontinue in favor of Central Racine.

“We just joined Central Racine County last year and this is our first year,” explained Village President Mike Aimone. “Now we are becoming a formal member of the Central Racine County Health Department which will allow us to have a voice and have a representative at their board meetings in the future.”

The Village Board is expected to consider various options for who will be the Union Grove representative at the Central Racine County Health Department board meetings at its Aug. 12 meeting.

Svendsen hopes the addition of a Board member will enable the Village to receive monthly reports from the Health Department.

Aimone stated initial financial reactions with Central Racine as public health care provider are cost-neutral to the Village, and include more services than what Western Racine County offered in the past.

“The benefits to the community have been greatly enhanced as a result of Central Racine County,” Aimone said. “They provided us with much more information, including a website as a municipality.”

Aimone stated one of the selling points of the Central Racine office headquartered in Franksville is the availability of a health inspector at no additional cost.

Also, Aimone said Central Racine is better in regards to communications with the Village of Union Grove.
