St. Robert’s to host Fish Fry Fridays during Lent

For Wisconsinites who think “Friday” should be officially re-named “Fish Fry Friday,” this is the time of year to which you and your appetite look forward.

A seven-week, Lenten season fish fry offered in Union Grove is unique not just because it’s hosted by a Catholic church, but that it’s prepared and cooked by the parish priest.

Fr. Robert Kacalo, pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Union Grove, and St. Mary–Dover, of Kansasville, worked as a chef before he was ordained.

So, with Kacalo as head chef armed with his “secret recipe,” the church’s Friday Night Fish Fries enters a third hit season beginning Friday, Feb. 15, and continuing through Good Friday, March 29.

Dinners are served in the St. Robert Parish Hall from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Friday during Lent. Dinners include all-you-can-eat baked or beer-battered cod, potato pancakes, coleslaw, sweet potato and French fries, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, marble rye bread and a homemade dessert baked by members of both parishes. Carryouts are available.

Price is $10 for adults; $6 for children ages four to 12. Coffee, tea, milk and water are included with dinner. Beer, wine and soda can be purchased separately.

Proceeds benefit the St. Robert’s and St. Mary’s Legacy Fund to support necessary renovations, and mechanical system repairs and upgrades.

St. Robert’s is located at 3320 S. Colony Rd., Union Grove.  The hall entrance is on the west side of the church and is wheelchair accessible. Parking is free.
