      • On Monday, May 27, the annual Memorial Day service and procession in Union Grove starts in American Legion Park, just south of the high school, at Main Street and 7th Avenue. Please bring lawn chairs.

The program includes a dedication to Sgt. Jason Wildfong, a Union Grove veteran killed in Kuwait in 2001, followed by a procession by Bixby-Hansen American Legion Post 171 members (walking or driving) down Main Street to Union Grove Cemetery.

Honors will be conducted for recently deceased veterans.

Also, a tree will be planted in honor of Ruby Alswager, American Legion Auxiliary member and member of the Union Grove Memorial Association Board of Directors for more than 30 years. Alswager died in January 2013.

The Auxiliary will present awards for the poppy poster and essay contest winners. The Union Grove High School band will perform.

Following the program, a procession to the Union Grove Cemetery will conclude with a salute by the Post Honor Guard.

A Post family picnic then follows at the Miller-Reesman Funeral Home.

Post 171 invites everyone to attend and participate in the weekend events.
