An Ohio man allegedly burglarized a Caledonia home July 1, then returned the next day to steal more food and recharge the I-phone he had taken a day earlier.

Tyler J. McElroy, 19, whose address is given as Homeworth, Ohio, is charged with two felony counts of burglary of a building.

According to the criminal complaint filed July 8 in Racine County Court:

The Caledonia homeowners returned to their residence about 7:22 p.m., July 2, to find an unknown man in their kitchen. He fled out the back door and was pursued, but the couple could not locate him.

Police officers who arrived checked out a backpack found in the kitchen that contained a number of items – mostly food – that had been taken from the home.

Also, an I-Phone, which the homeowners said had gone missing a day earlier, was now back and hooked up to a charger on the kitchen counter.

An investigator later spoke to McElroy, who allegedly admitted to entering the home on July 1, stealing the cell phone and a box of crackers.

McElroy reportedly further admitted to re-entering the home July 2, filling up a backpack with food items because he was “hungry and desperate.”

He stated that he ran off into the woods after the homeowners confronted him in their home.

McElroy made an initial appearance in court July 8, where probable cause was found that he had committed the crimes with which he is charged.

A $10,000 cash bond was set; he remains in the Racine County Jail as of press time.

McElroy is next due in court July 17 for a preliminary hearing.
